| SCHOOLS
Email List |
| The SCHOOLS
E-mail list provides a forum to work towards the advancement of
queer-friendly
primary and secondary schools in North America. The goal of the SCHOOLS
list is to bring groups and individuals together to work on strategies
to bring a halt to homophobia and to resist religious and conservative
political initiatives against gay youth in primary and secondary
schools
as well as colleges and universities. This list enables existing groups
with useful models to make contact with other organizations and to
bring
individuals into contact with those groups. The belief behind the
SCHOOLS
list is that a national network of individuals and organizations is the
most efficient means to counteract the messages of discriminatory
conservative
and religious agendas and to bring positive change to our educational
institutions.

Development |
- Gay-Friendly
Healthcare Directory: The goal of the Healthcare Directory Project
is to provide an online directory of gay-friendly counselors,
therapists,
psychologists, psychiatrists, and other mental health professionals.
The
Directory will enable youth to find mental health professionals who are
sensitive to their needs, both as youth and as GLBT+ people.
- Colleges
Project: The Colleges Project will provide college-bound students
with
a wealth of new resources on how to choose a college or university that
will best meet their needs. The selection criteria include gay-friendly
schools and schools with support programs or special programs for GLBT+
youth.
- HIV-positive
youth support: The staff is considering how YGS might be of service
to people 25 and under who are HIV-positive, living with AIDS, or have
friends or relatives who are HIV+. YGS used to host the POSITIVE YOUTH
e-mail list for HIV+ youth, but the list did not gain a large enough
subscriber
base to be a useful resource. Suggestions for improvements on the idea
are welcome.
